STARKVILLE, Miss. – Rhianwedd Price concluded a phenomenal 2014 cross country campaign by earning All-American accolades after finishing in the Top 25 at the NCAA National Championships.
Saturday Price ran a time of 20:30.00 to complete to finish 24th. She became MSU's second women's cross country All-American, the first being April Ecke in 1993.
Price, who maintained a position in the front pack for the majority of the race, had a strong finish to stay in the Top 25.
“It's the way you want to end the season,” MSU coach Houston Franks said. “She's had a wonderful season. I think going in I made the comment, that each race she gets better and that continued today. The conditions were challenging it was cold, but she went out strong. The pack went out extremely aggressive too.”
Katie Avery from Iona, claimed the individual title after finishing with a time of 19:31.60. Michigan State took home the team title with 85 points.
Price has been the leader of the MSU women's cross country team throughout the season. She has finished in the Top 10 in all previous races this season, with a first place finish at the season opener, the Memphis Twilight.
“We talked before and I told her don't leave with any regrets,” Franks said. “Go after it, try and be an All-American. If you do you do, if you don't you don't, but don't leave with any regrets. She raced some extremely good people today. Overall, she had a great season and a great end of the year. I'm extremely proud of her.”
With the conclusion of the season, Price now turns her attention to the track and field season, which begins in January.
