Women?s Cross Country Earns Top Five Finish At Crimson Classic

STARKVILLE, Miss. – At the Crimson Classic, Mississippi State cross country teams concluded the regular season in Tuscaloosa with the women's team earning a Top 5 finish.
Coming in fourth place, MSU had three standouts finish in the Top 10. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was sophomore Rhianwedd Price in second place (17:15.12). Following Price was Lisa Ziegler in ninth (17:45.03).
“I was extremely happy with our Top 3,” MSU coach Houston Franks said. “They got up there quick and they battled.
Ziegler was immediately followed by junior Cornelia Griesche who finished in 10th with a time of 17:45.54. Rounding out MSU's Top 5 was Jodie McGuff (69th, 18:43.64) and Mia Meydrich (85th, 18:52.99).
“Our fourth and fifth were too far behind our top three,” Franks said. “The championship meets are coming up and if we are going to do big things we have got to get better at fourth and fifth.”
The men's squad earned a 12th finish overall in the 8K. Damian Roszko finished seventh individually with a time of 25:16.05. The men's Top 5 included Mathew Dunn (50th, 26:12.14), Branden Nosker (64th, 26:25.12), Matt Weickert (107th, 25:59.48) and Patrick Monaghan (147th, 27:39.12).
“I was extremely please with how some of our guys stepped up today,” Franks said. “Matt Weickert really came through for us and freshman Branden Nosker ran a terrific race. This was a break out race for him.”
This meet completed the MSU cross country teams regular season. The teams will travel back to Tuscaloosa on Oct. 31 to compete in the SEC Championships.
