Three Bulldogs Advance To Third Round At ITA Southern Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Three Bulldogs highlighted day one of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships on Friday, as Georgiana Patrasc and the freshman pair of Jennifer Brown and Louise Ronaldson all advanced into the Saturday's round of 32 in singles play.
The tournament's No. 2 seed, the 42nd-ranked Patrasc defeated Samford's Carita Moolman in the second round, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 after a first-round bye. After also earning a bye in the first round, the rookie Brown defeated Sarah Jurakova of McNeese State, 6-2, 6-0. Ronaldson completed the day with two victories, taking a 7-5, 6-3 decision against Natalya Krutova of Northwestern State, and an 0-6, 6-4, 6-0 comeback win against Vanessa Nomennsen of Tulane.
Alex Corder, Timea Guibe and Naomi Tran rounded out singles play for State. The rookie Corder dropped a 7-5, 6-0 decision to USM's Carolin Drescher in opening round play. Tran fell 7-5, 6-2 against Jazmin Britos of Louisiana Tech. And after a first-round bye, Guibe was a 6-4, 6-0 victim of Alexandra Starkova, also of LTU.
In doubles, which actually started off play Friday, State's fourth-seeded tandem of Patrasc and Tran received a first-round bye and then moved into the round of 16 with a solid 8-3 victory over Olivia Brooke Durden and Linnea Skymberg of Troy.
The MSU freshman duo of Corder and Ronaldson took an intense 8-7(5) decision over LSU's Amanda Atanasson and Madara Straume to open play but then dropped an 8-3 decision to 9-16 seed Bennett Dunn and Aryn Greene of host Alabama. Bulldogs Brown and Guibe fell 8-6 in a tight first-round battle to LSU's Skylar Holloway and Ella Taylor.
Saturday's action will begin at 9 a.m. and will consist of two rounds of main draw singles and doubles, as well as consolation singles action.
