MSU?s Patrasc Advances To Quarterfinals At ITA Southern Regionals

Second seeded in the event and ranked 42nd nationally, Patrasc defeated Laura Valkova of South Alabama, 6-3, 7-5 in the third round of singles play, and followed with a 6-3, 7-5 victory against LSU's Ella Taylor in the round of 16, moving her to 8-2 on the season. Patrasc will meet No. 6 seed and 72nd-ranked Julia Jones of Ole Miss in the quarters on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
MSU freshmen Jennifer Brown and Louise Ronaldson also started off Saturday's action in the third round, but both players ended the day with losses. Brown fell to 10th-seeded Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss, 6-2, 7-6(4), while Ronaldson was eliminated by LSU's Abby Owens in a tough three-set affair, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Naomi Tran led the Bulldogs in the consolation draw, picking up two wins on the day to move to 7-3 on the season and advance to the round of 16 in that draw. In the first round, Tran took a 6-2, 6-2 decision from Sadey St. Amant of Jacksonville State before posting a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Tulane's Zoe Gaber. She will meet Bennett Dunn of host Alabama Sunday morning at 9. Freshman Alex Corder and sophomore Timea Guibe also participated in the consolation bracket, but both players fell in the first round.
Mississippi State would split in doubles Saturday, as the fourth-seeded duo of Patrasc and Tran fell in the round of 16 to 9-16 seeded Petra Horakova and Sophie Rufyikiri of UL-Monroe, 8-3. Meanwhile, Brown and Guibe picked up an 8-2 victory in a consolation match against South Alabama's Mary Angela Martin and Laura Matuskova.
