MSU Still One Stroke Off Lead At Seminole
March 16, 2013 | Men's Golf
Tallahassee, Fla., -Identical 4-under-par, 284's by Mississippi State and host Florida State on Saturday from the Seminole Intercollegiate, sets the stage for a fantastic finish going into the final round.
The No. 36 ranked Bulldogs finished Saturday where they left off Friday afternoon, only one stroke behind No. 17 FSU. Last season, FSU won the Seminole Intercollegiate by one stroke over Georgia Tech, so they have been in this exact position before.
"It was another pretty good day for us," Coach Clay Homan said. "The golf course played a little tougher today, because the wind picked up and the greens got quicker. Being in the last group tomorrow with an opportunity to win is right where we want to be."
Junior Joe Sakulpolphaisan has an opportunity to win as an individual Sunday, being only two strokes back from the lead. Sakulpolphaisan stayed the course and is still tied for third after his 2-under-par, 70 day. The Thailand native has a 6-under-par score for the Seminole Intercollegiate.
Junior Axel Boasson fell back a couple spots to tie for fifth on Saturday. The junior fired off a 1-under-par, 71 from Southwood to stay in the hunt going into tomorrow's final 18.
After shooting his best round of the season, senior Robi Calvesbert turned in a Even score. Calvesbert is tied for 12th place after the 72 at the Seminole.
SEC Player of the Week and junior Bulldog Chad Ramey climbed nine spots to tie for 25th on Saturday. The Fulton, Miss., native turned in a 1-under-par, 71 for the second round to leave him at Even for the tourney. Ramey has finished with at least a top-10 performance five out of his last seven tournaments.
Rounding out the Maroon and White lineup from Tallahassee was true freshman Haraldur Magnus. The Iceland product followed up his 2-over-par, 74 on Friday with a 5-over-par, 77 to tie for the 49th spot in his first action of the spring.
Sophomore Fletcher Johnson competed as an individual at the Seminole Intercollegiate, shooting a 15-over par, 87.
The Bulldogs will tee off from Southwood at 9:26 a.m. with Magnus leading off once again alongside FSU's Bjorn Hellgren and Coastal Carolina's Easton Renwick.
