Bulldogs Wrap Up Mason Randolph Championship With Fourth-Place Finish
September 23, 2012 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Junior Chad Ramey recorded his seventh-career Top 10 finish during Sunday's final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. The Mississippi State men's golf team captured a fourth-place finish at the Vanderbilt-hosted event with an 862 card.
“Today was one of those days where we played ok but just didn't have much to show for it,” said head coach Clay Homan. “To be in the final group the last two tournaments is right where we want to be. We will build off what we learned and work to improve in some areas.”
Garnering a share of eighth-place, Ramey extended his Top 25 streak to nine consecutive tournaments. The junior shot a 1-under-par for the weekend, with scores of 74, 68 and 70. Dating back to last season, Ramey has posted a Top 25 showing in every tournament since the Gator Invitational.
Junior Axel Boasson followed up his career-low second round with a 2-over-par 73 for Sunday's final round. Boasson finished the weekend with a 3-over-par performance; his 76-67-73 scorecard was good enough for a 16th-place finish. The Top 25 showing is the first of the season for the Iceland native.
Junior Joe Sakulpolphaisan and senior Robi Calvesbert both finished the tourney with a 5-over-par performance. The duo concluded play at the Vanderbilt Legends Club tied for 23rd with three others. This is Calvesbert's eighth-career Top 25, while Sakulpolphaisan recorded his second Top 25 of his young career in as many tries this season.
Rounding out the rest of the Bulldogs' tourney line-up was sophomore Fletcher Johnson's 240.
Vanderbilt won its own event with a 5-under-par 847. The win marks only the second time the Commodores have won their own event. Johnathan Grey of Georgia State claimed the individual title with a 7-under-par 206.
Next up for the Maroon and White will be the David Toms Intercollegiate, hosted by LSU on Oct. 6-7.
