
Host Pacific Takes Tourney Opener Over Mississippi State

Rance notched her fourth double-digit total in kills in as many matches this season, leading State with 12 kills. But the Tigers hit at a .313 clip and got 14-kill performances from Megan Birch, Jennifer Sanders to notched the win.
Baker had a nine-kill night and Wyman, a freshman, added eight with five blocks. Faith Steinwedell, one of two California natives on the MSU team, came off the bench to register seven kills with a team-best .462 attack percentage.
The Tigers overcame a 21-19 Bulldog advantage in winning the opening set and erased a 22-20 State lead in set two. The teams were deadlocked at 6-6 in the third stanza when Pacific put the match away with a 9-1 run.
Hillary Parker paced State's defense with 10 digs.
The Bulldogs conclude play in the Community Bankers Classic Saturday, meeting Duquesne at 12 p.m. CDT before closing out the Labor Day weekend competition against Army at 7 p.m. CDT at Pacific's Stamos Center.
