
MSU Men's Golf Completes Day One At Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. - Completing day one of action at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, the Mississippi State men's golf team finished with a two-round score of 595. The two-day tournament is being played at the par-72 Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
The Bulldogs opened with an impressive first round which placed the Maroon & White in first place at the turn and in fifth place after first round action with a team score of 294, which was the best round shot by MSU since the first round of its final tournament of the fall.
Following round two the Bulldogs posted a 301 team score to bring itself in a tie for sixth place among the 15-team field. Middle Tennessee leads the field with a two-round total of 581.
Bulldog sophomore Robi Calvesbert led MSU on the opening day with an even-par effort. Calvesbert fired identical even-par rounds of 72 for a two-round total of 144 and finished the first day tied for fourth among the individual field. Calvesbert's rounds of 72 were his best rounds since MSU's opening tournament of the fall. Calvesbert also was tied for the team lead in pars made with 26 on the opening day of action at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and was among the tournament's leaders in par 3, par 4 and par 5 scoring.
MSU's Brad Mason was the runner-up in the Bulldog lineup with a two-round total of 149. Mason was the leader among the tournament's following the first nine holes of play with an impressive 4-under-par effort and finished the first round with an even-par 72. Mason's 5-over-par first day score places him in a tie for 22nd among the individual field. Mason led State in birdies made with eight which was second-best among the individuals.
Bulldog junior Lee Heaton finished one-stroke behind Mason and is in tie for 29th among the individual field. Heaton was also tied for the team lead in pars made with 26 and was tied for the tournament's leader in par 3 scoring. State's freshman Chad Ramey rebounded from a first-round 79 with a 3-over-par score in round two for a first-day total of 154 and was among the leaders in par 3 and par 4 scoring. John Darden rounded out the Bulldog lineup with a two-round score of 156 and was among the tournament's leaders in par 5 scoring.
Bulldog freshman Axel Boasson competed as an individual for MSU, so his score did not count towards the team total. Boasson shot rounds of 77 and 74, finished in a tie for 35th among the individual field and was among the tournament's leaders in pars made. Boasson's second-round 74 tied his career best second round score.
