
MSU Ends Day one At SEC Championships In Fifth Place

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mississippi State women's track and field team concluded its first day in Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2010 SEC Indoor Championships Friday. The Lady Bulldogs ended the opening day of competition in fifth-place with four points scored.
South Carolina is the meet leader with 10 points, followed by Alabama with eight points and Kentucky with seven points to round out the Top 3.
Senior LaQuinta Aaron scored State's only points of the day finishing fifth in the pentathlon. Aaron scored 3,841 points in the five event competition to secure her spot in the Top 5.
"LaQuinta did a good job for us today," head coach Al Schmidt said. "She didn't have her best day, but she always comes through for us and scores at the SEC meet. I'm proud of the effort she gave in her last SEC Indoor Championships."
Kettiany Clarke from South Carolina, won the event scoring 4,064 points, followed by Alabama's Chealsea Taylor (4,019 points) in second and Kentucky's Precious Nwokey (3,967 points) in third.
State freshman, Racquel Farquharson finished in fourteenth-place in her first SEC Indoor Championships pentathlon. Farquharson scored a personal-best 3,178 points.
The Lady Bulldogs continue competition at the Randal Tyson Track Center Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
"We've got some big events tomorrow," Schmidt added. "Wendy (Copeland) in the long jump and prelims in other events, so it's a big day for us."
