Bulldogs End Play At David Toms Intercollegiate
October 19, 2010 | Men's Golf
MSU had its most disappointing round on the final day of the three-round tournament with a team score of 301 bringing its three-round total to a 15-over-par 879.
Host-school, defending champion and ninth-ranked LSU won the tournament for the second straight year while eighth-ranked Arkansas was the runner-up, followed by South Alabama, Middle Tennessee and North Florida rounding out the top 5.
"We had a good opportunity to climb up the leader board going into today's round but we had some poor course management which caused us to slip up," Coach Clay Homan said. "Particularly the back nine is where we played poorly and we have to make better decisions in the future."
Heaton led the Bulldogs while earning a top 25 individual finish with a 54-hole score of 216. Heaton was also State's leader in pars made with 46.
True freshman Chad Ramey was the runner-up in the Bulldog lineup. After firing a disappointing 77 in the opening round Ramey rebounded with two under-par rounds (70-71) to close out the tournament, bringing his three-round total to 218 and a 33rd place finish. Alex Rowland fired consecutive rounds of 73 and closed out the tournament with a 5-over-par third round, finishing in a tie for 46th. Rowland was State's leader in birdies made with 10 through rounds of action.
Sophomore Brad Mason had a disappointing third round which spoiled a solid first and second round showing. Mason was 1-under-par after the first day of the tournament which included a hole-in-one on hole six (par 3) in the second round. Sophomore Robi Calvesbert rounded out the State's lineup with a three-round score of 232.
MSU will cap off the fall season on Oct. 23 when they tee off in the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship.
