State Sophomore Mayuk Picks Up Another Win On Final Day Of SEC Fall Classic
September 13, 2009 | Women's Tennis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After losing her first match of the SEC Fall Classic on Friday, Mississippi State women's tennis player Natalia Mayuk made sure it would not happen again.
Mayuk rebounded to scrape up a victory Saturday, before capturing third place in Sunday's match against Taylor Lindsey of Alabama. The Lady Bulldog powered past her UA counterpart 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the No. 5 Draw of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Mayuk was one of only three Lady Bulldogs able to play on the day, as freshman Danielle Terpko, sophomore Olesya Tsigvintseva, and junior Valeriya Makarycheva each dropped out due to injury. Tsigvintseva was set to play for the championship of her draw before her injury.
"Overall, we have a lot to practice," said MSU assistant coach Max Fomine. "With these tournaments, sometimes injuries just happen, unfortunately, but obviously we are real proud of Natalia for her effort."
MSU's Radka Ferancova and Elizabeth Hall each lost in straight sets to end the day.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Sept. 25-27 when they travel to Bloomington, Ind., to play at the University of Indiana.
