Tsigvintseva, Makarycheva Advance On Day One Of ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. - Mississippi State' s women's tennis team concluded play Friday at the ITA Southern Regional with impressive performances from sophomore Olesya Tsigvintseva and senior Valeriya Makarycheva.
After a strong first set, Tsigvintseva battled for a tight second set win and a 6-4, 7-6 (7) triumph over Monica Winkel of Louisiana-Monroe. Meanwhile, teammate Makarycheva was dominating in a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win over Paulina Schippers of Auburn.
Those two wins were all MSU could find today, however. Elizabeth Hall, Natalia Mayuk and Danielle Terpko each dropped their respective matches.
The Lady Bulldogs started the day with two losses in doubles, as the MSU tandem of Mayuk and Tsigvintseva fell 8-5 to Parija Maloo and Alina Volman of South Alabama and the duo of Makarycheva and Terpko dropped an 8-2 decision to the Alabama team of Courtney McClane and Alexa Guarachi.
Tsigvintseva and Makarycheva will each play in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
