MSU Lady Netter Tsigvintseva Impressive Again, Moves Into Finals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Building on her strong opening day performance, Mississippi State's Olesya Tsigvintseva pushed past Emily Carbone of Arkansas in straight sets Saturday to land in the finals of the SEC Fall Classic.
The win by Tsigvintseva marked the second day in a row she has played exceptionally well. Friday, the MSU sophomore powered past Keilly Ulery of Vanderbilt in a 6-2, 6-3 triumph, setting up today's semifinal contest.
Going against UA's talented Carbone, Tsigvintseva picked up where she left off, dominating the Lady Razorback 6-3, 6-4. The win moves her into a Sunday's finals match against Maria Sorbello of Tennessee. The winner of that contest will claim the title of the No. 3 Draw in the tournament.
Tsigvintseva was not the only impressive Lady Bulldog on Saturday. Her sophomore teammate Natalia Mayuk rebounded from a Friday loss to take a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Paulina Schippers of Auburn. That win moves her into the championship of the consolation round in the No. 5 Draw.
In other action, State's Radka Ferancova lost in a 6-3, 6-3 contest to Laura Van de Stroet of Ole Miss. Meanwhile, MSU's Valeriya Makarycheva and Danielle Terpko each retired due to injuries.
State also failed to pick up a win in doubles, as each Lady Bulldog pair took losses in the consolation rounds of their respective draws.
"We continue to make vast improvements," said State assistant coach Max Fomine. "The more we play, the better we get. We had some injuries today, but our girls are staying positive."
MSU will be back in action tomorrow when Tsigvintseva vies for the top spot in her bracket.
