No. 25 Ole Miss Too Much For Lady Bulldog Tennis On The Road

OXFORD, Miss. ? Mississippi State's bid for a second-consecutive Southeastern Conference upset victory fell short Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Bulldog tennis team (10-9, 1-9 SEC) concluded its regular-season SEC schedule with a 4-0 loss to 25th-ranked Ole Miss (12-8, 5-6 SEC) on the road.
It was a rough start to the day in doubles for the Lady Bulldogs, as they went down in order on courts one, two and three. At the top position, a pair of ranked duos faced off, with the No.35 ranked Ole Miss pair of Karen Nijssen and Kristi Boxx coming out on top over the 49th-ranked MSU tandem of Martina Banikova and Elna de Villiers 8-1.
Court two was much of the same for the Lady Bulldogs. The freshman pair of Natalia Mayuk and Olesya Tsigvintseva fell to UM's Abigail Guthrie and Gabriela Rangel 8-2, while the tightest match came at the third position where State's Radka Ferancova and Valeriya Makarycheva fell in an 8-7(4) tiebreaker to Ole Miss' Laura van de Stroet and Mimi Renaudin.

The MSU junior Ferancova fell on court No. 3 to UM's van de Stroet 6-2, 6-1. State's Banikova then dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to the 32nd-ranked Boxx of Ole Miss at the top spot, putting the score at 3-0 in the Lady Rebels' favor.
Ole Miss then clinched the match with a victory at No. 2, where the 71st-ranked Nijssen ousted the Lady Bulldog freshman Tsigvintseva 6-4, 6-4, giving Ole Miss the 4-0 victory.
After UM claimed the 4-0 advantage, the teams decided to suspend the rest of the matches at that point. In the remaining matches, Ole Miss held one-set leads at the No. 4 and 6 positions, while State was up a set at the No. 5 spot.
