
Special Events Following Ron Polk's Retirement

STARKVILLE, Miss. - When Mississippi State concludes its 2008 baseball regular season against Arkansas May 15-17, some special events will be held in conjunction with that weekend to honor legendary head coach Ron Polk, who announced his retirement this year.
The Bulldog-Razorback three-game series will be played Thursday, May 15 (6:30 p.m.), Friday, May 16 (6:30 p.m.) and Saturday, May 17 (3 p.m.) at Dudy Noble Field/Polk-DeMent Stadium.
On Friday evening, MSU's outgoing seniors will be honored.
On Saturday, prior to the series finale, an array of events will surround Polk's final regular season game as the MSU skipper. They are as follows:
    - The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative poster, which will honor Polk
    - Fans in attendance will have a chance to win a commemorative autographed baseball from Polk
    - Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive will be in attendance to honor Polk for his achievements in college baseball

Ron Polk has been a collegiate baseball head coach for 35 seasons, 29 of those coming at Mississippi State. His overall record is 1,370-696-2. He is the winningest coach in SEC history. He has led eight teams to NCAA College World Series appearances, 23 to NCAA competition, five to SEC titles and five to SEC Tournament crowns. His players have earned all-America honors 35 times, been named all-SEC 76 times, and 171 of his pupils have gone on to sign professional baseball contracts. He has been named National Coach of the Year twice and is a member of four Halls of Fame.
With his name adorning MSU's stadium, Polk has coached nearly 50 percent of the Diamond Dogs' 3,605 all-time baseball contests.
