Andy Wilson pitched four innings of shutout middle relief as the Bulldogs took the midweek victory before a Dudy Noble Field crowd of 1,085.
In the MSU first inning, Grant Hogue and Ryan Collins reached as back-to-back hit batsmen. Jason Nappi followed with an RBI-double to center field. Connor Powers added a two-run single. Russ Sneed added another hit, prior to Jet Butler's two-run double to left center. Ryan Duffy capped the big inning with a two-run home run to right center field - his second home run of the season.
Austin Peay (12-12) scored all of its runs in the third inning. For the Governors, Greg Bachman had an RBI-single, Will Hogue had a two-run double and Ryan Gilboy had an RBI-single.
The Bulldogs (12-15) then put the contest back out of reach with back-to-back three-run innings in both the fifth and sixth innings.
In the M-State fifth inning, Connor Powers started things with a double. Russ Sneed followed with an RBI-single. After Sneed stole second base, Butler drew a walk. An infield hit by Tyler Moore loaded the bases. Ryan Duffy hit a sacrifice-fly, scoring Sneed. An RBI-single by Grant Hogue capped that inning.
In the Bulldogs' sixth inning, Jason Nappi drew a one-out walk. Sneed followed with a two-out hit - his third of the game. A two-run double by Tyler Moore scored Butler and Sneed, while a balk call brought Butler home.
The Bulldogs finished with 14 hits. Sneed had his first three-hit game of the season for MSU. Powers, Butler and Moore each had two hits and two RBI.
The Governors finished with 10 hits. Will Hogue had three hits and two RBI. Rafael Hill also had two hits for APSU.
Wilson (2-0) allowed two hits, while striking out five and walking none, in relief of starter Greg Houston, who threw the first three innings for the Bulldogs. Chad Crosswhite and Jesse Carver also threw a scoreless inning apiece as the MSU bullpen allowed four hits and no runs in six innings of work.
Jake Brisbin (1-1) took the loss for Austin Peay. Brisbin allowed eight hits and 10 runs (all earned) in four innings of work. Jeff Brooks completed the contest on the mound for the Governors.
The Bulldogs and Governors conclude their two game midweek series and MSU completes its seven-game homestand with a 6:30 p.m. start Wednesday at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs then return to Southeastern Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Kentucky. The MSU-UK series begins with a 5:30 p.m. CT start Friday.
