State Rookie Mayuk Advances To B Draw Final At ITA Southern Regionals

ATHENS, Ga., ? In a thrilling three-set victory Sunday which featured two tiebreakers, Mississippi State freshman women's tennis player Natalia Mayuk advanced to the final of the B Draw at the ITA Regional Championships and will play her title match Monday.

Playing two matches Sunday, Mayuk started her impressive showing in the quarterfinal round as she knocked off Natalia Guevera of South Florida 7-6, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, Mayuk held off past Ali Beavers of Georgia Southern in a tight 6-4, 6-7, 1-0(9) decision to take her spot in the finals of the B Draw Monday.

Also in action today in the B Draw, MSU junior Valeriya Makarycheva came very close to setting up a meeting with Mayuk in Monday's final. She defeated Katerina Gresova of Georgia State 6-4, 6-3 to move into semifinal play, before losing to Shelley Godwin of Alabama in a close 1-6, 6-4, 1-0(10) match.

Looking to build on today's impressive performances, Mayuk will go for the crown in the B Draw tomorrow against Shelley Godwin of Alabama.
