
State's Golden Coachman And 4x400 Meter Relay Team Finish Fourth At NCAA Championship

With Coachman's finish along with MSU's foursome of Arthur Davis, Bruce Davis, Nathan Daniels and Ezra Jones placement in the relay final, all five Bulldogs earned all-American status. Goldman, who spent time in Iraq with the military a couple of seasons ago, becomes the second MSU track and field athlete to earn the status of all-American in the 800-meter run. Arthur Davis also etched his name in MState's track laurels. The Mobile, Ala.-senior beame just the second MSU trackster to earn all-American honors in all four seasons in the Maroon and White. Daniels and B. Davis have garnered the honor for the second-straight season.
“We had a good meet,” said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. “ Golden's (Coachman) story is truly incedible ? to be serving in Iraq a couple of years to now earning all-American status in his first season here. We are very proud of all five individuals for being all-Americans this season. It was a good year on the men's side.”
Coachman clocked a final time of one minute, 47.96 seconds, his best time of the weekend. The men's 800-meter run had two preliminary rounds preceding the finals. The Birmingham, Ala.-product set the school record earlier in the year at the Southeastern Conference Championships in May with a mark of 1:47.40.
The time turned in by the State 4x400-meter relay team set a new season-best time with a finish of 3:03.49 which is fifth-best all-time at MSU. They finished just behind LSU and ahead of Georgia.
As a team, MSU placed 28th in the overall team standings with 10 points. With the placement, the Bulldog track squad has finished in the top-30 in six of the last seven seasons at the NCAA national meet.
