Well-known in the coaching profession, Ginger Brown-Lemm enters her 11th season as head coach of the Mississippi State women's golf team in 2020-21.
Â
During her tenure, Brown-Lemm has accomplished what no other coach in program history has done by leading her team to three-straight NCAA Tournaments from 2012-14. The Hope, Arkansas, native coached the Bulldogs to their first ever NCAA Championship appearances in 2013 and 2014. She is tied for the most team titles of any Bulldogs head coach with five.
Â
In 2018-19, Brown-Lemm guided State back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 behind a young squad. MSU’s three highest total rounds played for the season were recorded by underclassmen, with freshman Hannah Levi leading the way with 30 rounds played and a team-leading nine rounds of par or better.
Â
In the Magnolia Invitational at the Old Waverly Golf Club, Mississippi State earned its highest team finish (second place) in a tournament since 2014, shooting 4-under as a team for the event. For the year, the Bulldogs claimed four Top-5 finishes and reached the quarterfinals of the SEC Championship with a seventh-place finish, marking the highest placing since 2013.
Â
The 2017-18 season saw six finishes inside the top 10 and a pair in the top 5. This season can be looked at as one that saw the program take steps forward that set Mississippi State up for success in the future. Brown-Lemm brought in a freshmen class that earned valuable experience and went on to be great building blocks for upcoming squads.
Â
In 2016-17, Brown-Lemm coached Jessica Peng to one of the best performances in program history. Peng finished first in the UCF Challenge after posting two of the four lowest rounds in program history. She opened the tournament by carding a 66, 6-under before upping her game and recording a 65, 7-under, marking the third lowest mark, in the following round. Her performance marked the third best by a Bulldog in program history as she carded a 205, 11-under. As a team, MSU finished tied for third at the event, one of two Top-5 finishes on the year.
Â
The 2015-16 campaign featured four Top-10 finishes, highlighted a third-place spot at the Schooner Fall Classic. Peng led the was at the event, shooting 4-under par at the single-round tournament to place sixth.
Â
During the 2014-15 slate, the Bulldogs broke the program’s three-round score card record with an impressive 818, 22-under at the Belmar Golf Club during the Schooner Fall Classic. The showing was the first of back-to-back top finishes for MSU that year, as State placed first at the Old Waverly Bulldog Classic. Overall, the squad ended the season with six Top-5 finishes and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Â
The 2013-14 season stands as the best ever in program history. In 12 events, the Bulldogs posted an incredible scoring average of 293.65 and finished in the Top 10 nine times and the Top 5 on five occasions. The first of two wins on the season came at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational with an MSU single-round record of 275, -13 under par in the third round to seal the victory. The second win was in the spring during a trip to Hawaii for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
Â
Led by All-American Ally McDonald, MSU finished its magical season sixth at the NCAA National Championship after placing third at the Central Region at Oklahoma State. Later in the summer, McDonald went on to make the Round of 16 at the prestigious U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
Â
When her third season, MSU earned a bid in the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2006 after a stellar SEC Championship that saw the Bulldogs paired with defending national champion Alabama for the final round and post a program-best fifth-place finish. State trekked to the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, and fired the program’s second-lowest 54-hole card, an 8-over-par 872. MSU would finish third in the event to advance to the NCAA Championships, but equally as impressive was the school-record 10-under-par 206 Ally McDonald notched to win the NCAA Central Regional. MSU would go on to be the first women’s golf program from the state of Mississippi to compete in the NCAA National Championship.
Â
In her second campaign, the Maroon and White chiseled another two strokes off its round average, lowering it to 308.44, which marked the best scoring average since the 2005-06 season. The Bulldogs posted three Top-10 finishes for the year. With an 891 in the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate, MSU posted a second-place card, the best finish in five years. Individually, MSU turned in five Top-10 cards and eight in the Top 25.
Â
During her first season with at State, her team posted the lowest 54-hole tournament card in over a decade with an 883 in the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational in Las Cruces, New Mexico. During that same event, MSU posted a second-round 291, which was the fourth-lowest round in program history at the time.
Â
The 2010-11 group carved nearly five strokes off its average and improved the tournament average by a commanding 15.16 strokes. Brown-Lemm guided two Bulldogs to Top-10 finishes and 13 golfers to Top 20 finishes in her first season. Following her inaugural year in Starkville, Brown-Lemm secured the fifth-best freshman class in the country according to GolfStat.com.
Â
It’s not just on the course where Brown-Lemm’s teams excel. Her players perform at a high level in the classroom as well. In 2018-19, 10 players earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, which stands as the most ever in a single season.
Â
During her time in the Maroon and White, Brown-Lemm has also been instrumental in enhancing Bulldog golf facilities. In only her first season at the helm, she helped establish the Maroon Tee Club, a booster organization for the Mississippi State men’s & women’s golf programs.
Â
In spring of 2012, the university announced that Old Waverly Golf Club, one of the South’s premier gold destinations in West Point, Miss., and home to the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open, would become the new home of both the men’s and women’s teams. Known as The Barn, the facility features a 6,300-square foot clubhouse with locker rooms, players’ lounge, coaches’ offices and an indoor putting center.
Â
Prior to taking over at Mississippi State, Brown-Lemm earned her first collegiate head-coaching seat at Arkansas State. While there for a two-year stint, she improved the team's scoring average by 12 shots and guided two of her players to medalist finishes as well as an All-Sunbelt Individual.
Â
She is a 20-year, PGA class "A" professional and a former All-Southwest Conference performer at the University of Texas at Austin.
Â
She also played professionally on the LPGA's Futures Golf Tour.
