Weed Fires Off Record-Tying Round In Opening Round Of Blessings

JOHNSON, Ark. – Avery Weed exploded in the opening round and propelled the Mississippi State Bulldogs to second after 18 holes at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.

Weed tied a Blessings Collegiate Invitational women's record after shooting 7-under in the opening round. Weed was one of three golfers to finish under par on the first 18 holes and will hold a five-stroke lead entering Tuesday.

Weed's round of 7-under is her best round of the season and is the fourth-best score in relation to par in program history. She has now shot par or better in six of seven rounds this season with three of those now being in the 60s. Weed is now a cumulative 18-under par across the span of the season.

Izzy Pellot and Moa Stridh sit right outside of the top 20 entering the second round. The duo both shot 5-over in the opening round.
