Bio
Attended the 1924 Paris Olympic Games as an assistant coach for the United States ... coached MSU Olympians Don Scott, Commodore Scott Cochran, Lee Priester and William O. Spencer ... served as head track and field and head men's basketball coach from 1912-24 ... also served as manager of the campus bookstore when he was hired ... amassed a 124-54 record and won four Southern Conference championships on the hardwood ... led State to 18 victories in scored meets as a track coach, including five state intercollegiate meets ... coached athletes to world records in the 100m and 400m, Southern records in the 800m and pole vault and an American record in the javelin ... later coached the football team for three seasons (1914-16), posting a 15-8-2 record on the gridiron ... the 1924 Reveille yearbook was dedicated to him ... attended Albion College in Michigan where he captained the football team, won eight athletic letters and was president of the Class of 1910 ... left State to return to his home state as a coach at Indiana following the 1924 track season ... hired his former athlete and MSU Olympian Sid Robinson as his assistant at Indiana ... led Hoosier athletes to an Olympic gold medal and 11 NCAA titles ... later a charter member of the IU Athletics Hall of Fame and returned to the Olympics as an assistant coach at the 1936 Berlin Games.
