Mississippi State's first Olympian in school history ... placed fifth in the 800m at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium ... followed that by competing in modern pentathlon at the 1924 Games in Paris, France, where he finished 26th ... was national AAU Champion in the 800m in 1916 and national runner-up in 1920 ... known as the South's first national champion in any track and field event ... played football, basketball and ran track at Mississippi State ... student body named the athletic field in his honor in 1920 leading to today's Scott Field at Davis Wade Stadium ... nicknamed the "Woodville Wonder" ... competed for the U.S. Army after his collegiate career and rose to the rank of colonel, serving in both World Wars and the Korean War ... prepared for his military career prior to enrolling at State by attending Chamberland-Hunt Academy in Mississippi, one of the earliest military prep schools in the United States.
