Ran leadoff for the United States' 4x400m relay team that set a new world record at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games ... trackside media reportedly clocked his first leg as an unofficial world record time for 400m ... first Bulldog to win a gold medal ... two-time NCAA Champion and All-American in the 440-yard dash in 1922 and 1923 ... captain of State's 1923 track team ... nicknamed "Race Horse" ... after graduation, he represented the Olympic Club of San Francisco ... 24 years after his 4x400m relay medal, his younger brother, Roy, won a gold medal in the same event, as well as one in the 400m hurdles at the 1948 London Games.
