
No. 6 Mississippi State Falls to Oklahoma in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. – No. 6 Mississippi State came up just short on the road Saturday, falling to No. 11 Oklahoma, 4-3.
The Sooners claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point. Oklahoma took a pair of 6-3 wins on courts two and three to take the early advantage into singles.Â
Mississippi State battled back in singles play with three strong victories. No. 16 Benito Sanchez Martinez delivered one of the most impressive performances of the day, rallying from a set down to defeat No. 30 Luis Alvarez, 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1. Raphael Vaksmann added a straight-sets win on court four, 7-5, 6-4, while Bryan Hernandez Cortes controlled his match on court five, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Oklahoma picked up wins on courts six, three and two, ultimately clinching the match on court two. Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision on court six to start singles.Â
The Sooners picked up momentum with a three-set win on court three. The match was clinched on court two, where Niccolo Baroni pushed to a third set but fell just short, as Oklahoma secured the decisive fourth point.Â
