No. 6 Bulldogs Complete Sweep At No. 18 Ole Miss

OXFORD - No. 6 Mississippi State capped a dominant weekend in Oxford with a 7-1 victory over No. 18 Ole Miss on Sunday, completing a series sweep and continuing its recent mastery in the rivalry.
The Diamond Dawgs (24-4, 7-2 SEC) struck early and never let up, using power at the plate and a deep pitching effort to finish off the Rebels at Swayze Field.
MSU wasted little time setting the tone in the first inning when Aidan Teel doubled and Ace Reese followed with a two-run homer to right, giving the Bulldogs a quick 2-0 lead. Ole Miss answered with a run in the bottom half, but it would be the only damage State allowed all afternoon.
From there, Mississippi State's pitching staff took control. Duke Stone (5-0) worked 5 2/3 innings, scattering four hits while navigating seven walks and striking out eight to hold the Rebels to a single run. Ben Davis and Dane Burns combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, limiting Ole Miss to just three hits the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs broke things open in the fourth. Jacob Parker launched a solo homer before Andrew Raymond added a two-run blast later in the inning, stretching the lead to 5-1. An error by Ole Miss earlier in the frame proved costly as State capitalized with timely power.
Mississippi State added insurance in the fifth when Reed Stallman delivered an RBI single, and the Dawgs capped the scoring in the ninth on Kevin Milewski's solo home run to center.
At the plate, Teel led the way with two hits and two runs scored, while Reese drove in two with his first-inning blast. Parker, Raymond and Milewski each homered as MSU tallied four long balls among its nine hits.
Ole Miss (19-10, 3-6) threatened at times, drawing eight walks but couldn't break through against the Bulldogs' pitching staff. The Rebels left the bases loaded four times and left a total of 14 runners left on base.
The win secured a series sweep for Mississippi State and marked another emphatic statement by the Diamond Dawgs, who have now won nine of the last 10 series against their in-state rival.
