
MSU Returns to Starkville for a Pair of SEC Matches

STARKVILLE, Miss. – No. 46 Mississippi State women's tennis returns home to Starkville for a couple of conference matches against No. 16 Vanderbilt and Missouri.
The Bulldogs will open the weekend with a ranked test against No. 16 Vanderbilt on March 13 at 3 p.m. before hosting Missouri on March 15 at 11 a.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Mississippi State enters the week following a road trip to Texas where they faced two ranked opponents. The Bulldogs fell to No. 8 Texas A&M, 7-0, on March 5 in College Station before dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 14 Texas later in the week.
State currently sit at No. 46 in the latest ITA team rankings. In doubles play, two MSU pairings represent the maroon and white. Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz sits at No. 18 and Chiara Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz slide into slot No. 71.
Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz delivered key performances in recent matches, helping secure the doubles point against Tennessee and Kentucky. The duo defeated Tennessee's No. 21-ranked pair of Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso, 6-4, before earning a 7-5 win over Kentucky's Zoe Hammond and Julia Zhu.
No. 16 Vanderbilt enters the matchup with momentum after earning two top-15 wins in Nashville, defeating No. 1 Georgia 4-2 and No. 11 South Carolina 4-1. Mississippi State will look to bounce back after a 7-0 loss to the Commodores last season. The Bulldogs' last victory over Vanderbilt came in 2018 in Starkville, 4-3.
Missouri will travel to No. 29 Alabama on March 13 before heading to Starkville for Sunday's contest. The Tigers are coming off a pair of losses against No. 1 Georgia and No. 11 South Carolina. Missouri claimed the last meeting between the programs in 2025 with a 4-3 win in Columbia, while Mississippi State's most recent victory over the Tigers came in 2024 by a 4-1 score.
