State’s Season Concludes At Tallahassee Regional
June 01, 2025 | Baseball
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mississippi State fought its way into the championship round of the Tallahassee Regional on Sunday, but the Bulldogs ultimately saw their season conclude with a loss to Florida State.
MSU started the day by topping Northeastern 3-2 in order to move on to a battle with the Seminoles in the evening. Needing to win in order to face a winner-take-all game on Monday, the Diamond Dawgs ultimately dropped the contest to Florida State 5-2 after the Seminoles rallied from behind in the late innings.
Mississippi State received strong pitching throughout the day. Evan Siary's performance was key against Northeastern as he allowed only two runs over six innings of work, striking out nine. Siary improved his record to 3-1 in the triumph. Stone Simmons picked up his third save of the year by tossing the final 2 1/3 innings and not allowing a run to the Huskies.
Against Florida State, Karson Ligon drew the start for MSU and hurled four shutout innings. But the Seminoles were finally able to get to the Bulldog bullpen as Luke Dotson was saddled with the loss to drop to 1-2.
At the plate, Gehrig Frei led the way against Northeastern with three hits and two runs scored. Hunter Hines had a pair of hits in the ballgame and drove in two of MSU's three runs.
Frei and Joe Powell each had solo home runs facing Florida State, but it wasn't enough against the Seminoles, who trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh before scoring two in the seventh and three more in the eighth to put an end to MSU's 2025 campaign.
