May 03, 2025 | Baseball
Powell's clutch hit continued what was a fantastic day for him. He went 3-for-3 in the day's first game with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. Sawyer Reeves, Noah Sullivan, Bryce Chance and Gatlin Sanders all drove in a pair in the contest.
The Bulldogs outhit the Wildcats 15-6 in the day's opener with Ace Reese and Sullivan adding a double each to add to Powell's two for a combined four.
Pico Kohn drew the start on the mound for MSU in the first contest and secured the win, improving his record to 5-2. Kohn had four strikeouts over 5 2/3 frames. Ben Davis came in to pitch 1 1/3 innings of relief and earned his first career save.
In Game 2 of the double-dip, Evan Siary earned the start and struck out five over 3 1/3 innings. The Bulldog pitchers that finished out the remaining 7 2/3 frames added another 10 punchouts for a total of 15, only allowing one more hit and no runs. Luke Dotson claimed the win to improve his record 1-1.
At the plate, Gehrig Frei, Reeves and Hunter Hines all hit home runs that accounted for three of State's six hits in the day's final contest. Reese doubled to extend his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games.
Kentucky ended the day 0-2 to drop their record 25-19 and 10-13 in SEC play. State now stands at 28-19 overall and 9-14 in league action.
