State Falls To Texas A&M At SEC Tournament

HOOVER, Ala. – Mississippi State dropped a 9-0 decision to Texas A&M on Wednesday in first-round action of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
The Aggies (29-25) scored six runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Jace LaViolette grand slam, to set the stage for their triumph over the Bulldogs (34-21).
Freshman Ryan McPherson, making just his second career start on the mound, suffered the loss for State to fall to 4-1 for the season. Ryan Prager got the win for A&M, improving to 4-4 on the year after hurling 5 1/3 shutout innings.
MSU had six hits in the ballgame, all singles. Reigning SEC Player of the Week Ace Reese had two of those as he extended his hitting streak to 22 games. Noah Sullivan also had a pair of hits for the Diamond Dawgs, who left nine on base as they were shut out for only the second time all season.
Mississippi State will learn its postseason fate early next week. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will be televised Monday, May 26, at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
