May 16, 2025 | Baseball
COLUMBIA Mo., - Hunter Hines launched his 68th-career home run to establish a new Mississippi State record in the Bulldogs' 13-3 run-rule victory to take the series against Missouri on Friday.
Hines' record-setter was a three-run shot to right in the top of the sixth inning which surpassed Rafael Palmeiro's career total, a record that had stood for 40 years. Hines finished the game with four RBIs, which also brought his career total to 214 and moved him past Bruce Castoria for No. 3 all-time in the school's annals.
Hines' homer was one of four long balls that MSU launched during its 13-hit attack. Ace Reese led the way going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a solo homer. Bryce Chance and Gatlin Sanders both went 2-for-4 at the plate with Chance belting a two-run homer and finishing with three RBIs.
Joe Powell provided a three-run blast in the first inning while Noah Sullivan and Reed Stallman both doubled.
Ben Davis came on in relief of Evan Siary and worked the final 3 1/3 shutout innings to pick up the win. Davis surrendered just two base runners while fanning five as he improved to 3-2 on the mound.
The win clinched the Diamond Dawgs' third-consecutive SEC series as they improved to 33-20 overall and 14-15 in conference play.
