STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Evan Siary continues to receive a lot of recognition for his superb outing on the mound against Ole Miss last Friday.
Siary was named the National Pitcher of the Week by Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association following his career outing. Earlier this week, the junior pitcher was selected as the SEC Pitcher of the Week and the Player of the Week by the Golden Spikes Award.
Siary struck out a career-high 15 Rebels across eight shutout innings, which was also a personal best. In the win, he scattered six hits and did not walk a batter while tossing a career-high 98 pitches.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-hander has been a fixture in the Diamond Dawgs' weekend rotation during conference play. Siary has made 13 appearances and eight starts going 2-1 with a 4.06 ERA, 57 strikeouts and 13 walks over 44 1/3 innings of work.
But Siary's honors this week aren't solely limited to his stellar pitching performance. On Wednesday, he was lauded for his charitable work off the field as a member of the SEC Community Service Team.
Siary worked with the Challenger Baseball League in his hometown of Columbus, which provides an avenue for children with special needs to participate in baseball. He also volunteered his time raising donations to the Salvation Army as a bell ringer during the holidays. Additionally, he assisted at the TK Martin Center on MSU's campus, which specializes in helping students and other individuals with disabilities in the community.
