Tennis Earns Multiple CSC Academic All-District Honors

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State men's and women's tennis programs were well represented on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District teams, the organization announced Tuesday. The 2025 Academic All-District team, as selected by the CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the tennis court and in the classroom.

Representing the men on the academic all-district team are Mario Martinez Serrano, Dusan Milanovic, Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez, while Chiara Di Genova, Athina Pitta and Alessia Tagliente each represent the women's squad. The trio of Tagliente, Jovanovic and Milanovic are each earning their second career academic all-district honor after making the team in 2024.

Student-athletes who are at least a sophomore academically and athletically are eligible to be nominated when they have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, and for graduate students, it must be 3.50 for both undergraduate and graduate. Additionally, all nominees must be in the lineup for at least 70% of the team's matches (regional competitions such as ITAs and non-team-scored events do not count).

Chiara Di Genova
• Has earned a 4.00 GPA in accounting.
• Earned multiple Academic honors in 2024, including ITA Scholar Athlete honors.
• In 2025, Di Genova won 18 singles and doubles dual matches, highlighted by singles wins over Ole Miss, No. 8 LSU and South Carolina.
• Teaming with Tagliente, the pair earned a ranked doubles win over No. 75 Samford and clinched the doubles point.

Athina Pitta
• Has earned a 3.68 GPA in business administration.
• Won a combined 25 singles and doubles dual matches in 2025.
• Won 10 doubles matches at the No. 1 position playing alone side Gianna Oboniye.
• With Oboniye, the duo defeated the 11th-ranked pair from LSU.

Alessia Tagliente
• Has earned a 3.67 GPA in architecture
• Earned 22 singles and doubles dual matches this season.
• Won six straight dual singles matches to open the spring season.
• Teaming with Di Genova, the pair earned a ranked doubles win over No. 75 Samford and clinched the doubles point

• Has earned a 3.68 GPA in Interdisciplinary Studies.
• Has won a combined 32 singles and doubles dual matches this spring.
• Seven wins came against ranked opponents.

• Qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships with teammate Niccolo Baroni in the fall.

• Has earned a 3.75 GPA in Interdisciplinary Studies.
• Has won a combined 26 singles and doubles dual matches this spring.

• Has earned a 4.00 GPA in Finance
• Was named the 2025 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
• Has won a combined 38 singles and doubles dual matches this spring.
• Part of America's No. 1 ranked doubles team with teammate Sanchez Martinez.
• Help Mississippi State tie a program record with 25 team wins and advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

• Has earned a 3.52 GPA in Business Administration.
• Has won a combined 42 singles and doubles dual matches this spring.
• Part of the No. 1 ranked doubles team in America with teammate Jovanovic.

Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 3 for the women and June 4 for the men.
