Hurdlers Put On A Show In The Swamp

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mississippi State track and field closed out day one of the Pepsi Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida. The day was highlighted by the successful performances, which included a new program record and three MSU top-five all-time performances.
The day began with Kennedy Stringfellow competing in the long jump invitational section, where he jumped 7.68m to finish third. He finished closely behind Bulldog alum Cameron Crump, who jumped 7.97m to finish second.
Caleb Kaplan had a career high performance in the men's hammer, throwing a personal best of 57.15m. His performance was the fifth furthest in program history, with him less than a meter from the freshman record.
Jaitlyn Ware continued her record book performance streak for the third week by running 23.23 in the 200m for a new personal best. Her performance moved her to No. 4 on the MSU all-time list in the event.
The 400m hurdle squad had strong performances on both the men's and women's side this afternoon. Jessicka Woods ran first, clocking in a 57.37 to win her section and finish seventh overall. Woods dropped over a second off her previous personal best to set a new program record in the event. Anje Nel finished closely behind, running 58.71 to improve on her MSU No. 5 all-time spot. Alfonso Hale Jr. opened his season in the event, running a new personal best of 50.13 to tie for the fourth fastest time in program history. Christion Barker finished close behind with a new personal best of 50.42.
The day closed with both the men's and women's 4x400m relay squads qualifying for the finals, to be held tomorrow evening. Kennedy Jackson also jumped a personal best of 6.06m in the long jump to finish second.
Competition will continue tomorrow morning with the men's discus throw.
