
Bulldogs Down In The Swamp

STARKVILLE - Mississippi State track and field is continuing their road stretch this weekend as they head to Gainesville, Florida for the Pepsi Florida Relays.Â
The Bulldogs will compete a smaller group of sprinters, jumpers and throwers this weekend. Nicholas Fakorede will compete in his first collegiate 200m this weekend, and he currently is ranked fourth nationally on the NCAA performance list in the 100m. Kennedy Stringfellow and Cyrus Jacobs are both ranked in the top 10 in the SEC in the men's 200m. Adding to Stringfellow's accolades he also sits at No. 7 nationally in men's long jump. Jessicka Woods, Anje Nel, Christion Barker, and Alfonso Hale Jr. all made the NCAA East first round last season and are gearing up to repeat this feat this year.Â
The Bulldogs open their events on Friday afternoon with the women's 4x100m at 2:30 and the men's 4x100 at 2:40. At 5:25 p.m. Jessicka Woods looks to beat her personal best for the third straight meet in the women's 400m hurdles. The night ends at 7:10 p.m. with the men's 4x400 preliminaries. Â
State starts off Friday morning for the first field event of the day in men's discus at 9 a.m. Later in the afternoon Aaron Fortenberry, coming off a personal best meet, competes in men's pole vault at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs look to end the Pepsi Florida Relays at 6:09 p.m. with the men's 4x400m invite.Â
Mississippi State is looking to break new records in Gainesville this weekend as they hold the record at the Percy Beard Track, and for the Pepsi Florida Relays for Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 3:13.12.Â
