State Drops One-Run Decision At No. 11 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – Mississippi State dropped a tight 6-5 decision to No. 11 Auburn at Plainsman Park on Friday night.
The Diamond Dawgs moved the tying run into scoring position in the top of the ninth but were unable to push him across, falling to 24-18 overall and 6-13 in SEC play.
MSU had seven hits in the contest and scored all of its runs on a pair of homers by Noah Sullivan and Joe Powell. Sullivan started the scoring with a two-run shot in the fourth frame and Powell tied the game at five following his three-run shot in the seventh.
Pico Kohn (4-2) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs. Kohn struck out eight and only issued one walk through 6 2/3 innings.
Auburn finished with 10 hits and improved to 29-13 overall and 10-9 in conference play. Carson Myers (1-2) picked up the win in relief.

State continues the series in Auburn on Saturday at 6 p.m. and streaming on SEC Network+. The Diamond Dawgs plan to start junior right-hander Evan Siary (0-1, 4.00 ERA) on the mound while The Tigers counter with junior southpaw Cade Fiser (1-1, 4.71 ERA).
