March 09, 2025 | Men's Golf
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Mississippi State won the Desert Mountain Collegiate with a three-day score of 11-under 853, defeating a field of 16 other teams. This is MSU's sixth tournament victory under head coach Dusty Smith and its third time winning the Desert Mountain Collegiate in his tenure.
Â
The Bulldogs were led by three top-10 finishers – Garrett Endicott (T-2nd), Dain Richie (T-8th) and Harrison Davis (T-8th).
Â
"I'm really proud of the effort we showed this week," Smith said. "We had a great gameplan and really good preparation leading into this week. It was a full team effort, and I'm really happy for all the guys and our entire team. Our goal was to immerse ourselves in our process and what makes us successful. We knew if we did that, we would have a really good shot at winning."
Â
With the second round suspended on Saturday because of darkness, Endicott picked up right where he left off. Shooting a 5-under 67 in Round 1, he completed his second time through the course with a 4-under 68. Endicott shot an even-par final round with four birdies, ultimately finishing in a tie for second at 9-under, matching the best performance of his college career.
Â
Richie put together his best finish in the Maroon and White, tying for eighth at 2-under. He bested his top finish at MSU for the third-consecutive tournament, and this stands as his first top-10 finish at State. He completed Round 2 with an even-par 72, and he began the third round with three birdies in his first three holes before settling at even par. Richie shot par or better scores in all three rounds for the second straight tournament.
Â
Davis, competing as an individual, also notched his best finish at State with a tie for eighth. He closed the tournament with rounds of 1-under 71 and 4-under 68. He was especially proficient on the back nine, combining for a score of 9-under on those holes over the event's three rounds. He shot his best round of the season in Round 3 and his lowest score since last year's Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
Â
Ugo Malcor finished in a tie for 24th at 2-over for his second-best finish at State. Drew Wilson saved his best golf for the final round, firing a season-best 4-under 68. Wilson carded six birdies and two eagles in his last round, and he led the field with three eagles over the tournament.
Â
Mississippi State returns to the desert at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate in Tucson on March 17-18.
