March 07, 2025 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's tennis team lost a close battle to Ole Miss, 4-2, on Friday night.
After losing the doubles point, the Bulldogs did not give in. With crucial singles wins by Chiara Di Genova and Carolina Troiano, Mississippi State was right back into the thick of things until the very end. Jayna Clemens climbed back from a set down and extended her match to three sets to keep hopes alive for State. Gianna Oboniye was lined up to win her match on court one, but she was disqualified before she could finish, giving the final point to the Rebels.
Records
No. 57 Mississippi State (9-4, 0-4 SEC)
No. 54 Ole Miss (9-4, 2-2 SEC)
Quotable:
"I asked my girls after a really tough weekend on the road to really know who they are fighting for. We all thought it was unacceptable because we didn't fight for [Mississippi State] or the logo on our shirts. We made a promise to each other that, regardless of how we play, our attitudes will never be a question because of how much we love this logo and how much we love this brand. We promised each other that we would step on the court and fight for our school, program, and university, and I couldn't be more proud of them today. It was a very good battle, Ole miss are a tough team. They will probably be a top-25 team at the end of the season. We just have to keep moving forward." - Head Coach Chris Hooshyar
