Whateley Leads Bulldogs After Darius Rucker Intercollegiate First Round

HILTION HEAD, S.C. – No. 14 Mississippi State completed day one of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at 13-over 297, entering round two in a tie for 11th. Samantha Whateley led the Bulldogs with a 2-under 69.

State got an early jump start from Ana Pina Ortega, who strung together three-straight birdies on holes six through eight. She ultimately ended her day with a round of 2-over 73, putting her in a tie for 23rd.

The round of the day for the Dawgs came from Whateley, who overcame a 37 on the front nine to fire a 3-under 32 on the back side with four birdies. She completed her round in style with a long-range birdie putt, placing her in a tie for second overall headed into day two.

Avery Weed and Chiara Horder rounded out State's top four with rounds of 6-over 77 and 7-over 78, respectively. Izzy Pellot shot a 10-over 81.

MSU begins round two from Hilton Head at 9:10 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be viewed on SCOREBOARD, and the event will be televised on Golf Channel at 1:30 p.m. CT.
