#STATEtoSundays: Super Bowl Preview
February 09, 2025 | Football
No matter who wins between Kansas City and Philadelphia in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, a former Mississippi State standout will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy following the game.
For the second time in three years, Chris Jones and the Chiefs will be taking on Darius Slay and the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Kansas City prevailed 38-35 the last time the two teams met on the big stage in 2023.
Jones already leads all Bulldog alums with three Super Bowl rings and will tie MSU and Dallas legend D.D. Lewis with five appearances in The Big Game on Sunday. Jones will be making his third-straight Super Bowl appearance.
Jones, who suited up for the Bulldogs from 2013-15, has played in 21 career playoff games and drawn 19 starts. He has racked up 43 tackles, six tackles for loss, 3 ½ sacks, 11 pass defenses and forced a fumble during his postseason career.
Slay is slated to start his 11th-career playoff game and has tallied 38 tackles, eight pass defenses and one interception in his previous postseason performances. He starred in State's secondary from 2011-12 and is in search of his first Super Bowl ring.
Jones and Slay, both six-time Pro Bowl selections, are already among the 41 Bulldogs to reach The Big Game and this year will mark the 63rd time Mississippi State players have been on Super Bowl rosters. A total of 25 different Bulldogs have previously been part of 29 Super Bowl championships, a number that is assured to increase on Sunday.
