Diamond Dawgs Grab Series-Opening Win Over Missouri State

Kohn's start and Sullivan's clutch hit key to victory.
STARKVILLE – A fabulous Pico Kohn start and an eighth-inning rally propelled the No. 18 Diamond Dawgs over Missouri State 3-1 on a frigid Friday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
Mississippi State's offense came out chilly for the first seven innings, but a go-ahead double from Noah Sullivan was the decisive blow in a three-run eighth.
Lukas Buckner continued his early-season surge as the freshman finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of singles. He now has four hits through his last eight plate appearances. The offensive hero of the day though was Sullivan, with his double into right-centerfield that drove in a pair of runs and broke a 1-1 tie. Sullivan ended the day 1-for-4 at the plate with his two RBIs.
On the mound, Kohn cruised through the Missouri State lineup with 11 strikeouts, tying his career-high in 6 1/3 innings of work. Chase Hungate, Dane Burns and Luke Dotson came on in relief totaling 2 2/3 innings of work, all punching out one batter apiece.
Mississippi State resumes its series with Missouri State on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
