#STATEtoSundays: Super Bowl Update
February 11, 2025 | Football
After a dozen years as one of the NFL's elite cornerbacks, Darius Slay finally has a Super Bowl ring.
Slay became the 26th player in Mississippi State history to hoist the Lombardi Trophy when his Philadelphia Eagles knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX this past Sunday.
Slay started in the secondary and recorded a pair of solo tackles in the win. The six-time Pro Bowler earned the fourth-highest defensive grade at his position according to Pro Football Focus (PFF) and was only challenged once during the game, giving up a 5-yard reception.
Chris Jones tied MSU and Dallas Cowboys great D.D. Lewis when he appeared in his fifth Super Bowl. Jones started at defensive tackle for the Chiefs and was credited with a quarterback hurry.
Jones, also a six-time Pro Bowler, was the highest-rated interior defensive lineman in the NFL during the 2024 season. PFF graded the Houston native at 90.2 overall on the year.
Jones and Slay were already among the 41 Bulldogs to be apart of Super Bowl rosters. Slay's championship with the Eagles is the 30th Super Bowl title won by a State player.
