February 01, 2025 | Men's Basketball
A quick rundown of the action as MSU drops decision to the Tigers.
THE BOTTOM LINE: In yet another Top-20 matchup in front of a sellout crowd at the Humphrey Coliseum, No. 20 Missouri's long-range success proved to be too much for No. 14 Mississippi State to overcome as the Bulldogs fell to the Tigers 88-61. Fueled by a pair of early treys, Mizzou began the game on a 10-2 run that set the tone for what was to come. By halftime, the Dawgs found themselves in a 45-31 hole and they were unable to fight their way back into the contest. The loss drops MSU to 16-6 overall and 4-5 in Southeastern Conference play this season.
KEY NUMBERS: Missouri drilled nine 3s in the first half alone to build its lead. The Tigers went on to finish 15-of-32 from deep. Overall, Mizzou shot 55 percent as a team and at times, seemingly couldn't miss. Meanwhile, State shot 36.4 percent as a group. Even in defeat, it was once again a big game for Josh Hubbard. The standout Dawg guard scored a team-high 24 points, including a 6-for-11 showing from three-point range himself. KeShawn Murphy was the lone other Bulldog to reach double figures in scoring. Murphy totaled 16 to go along with a team-best nine rebounds.
NEXT UP FOR THE DAWGS: Mississippi State has a full week before its next contest. MSU travels to face Georgia in Athens on Saturday, Feb. 8. Tip time at the Stegeman Coliseum is set for 5 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by SEC Network.
