STARKVILLE – Mississippi State (9-1) is set to square off with in-state foe Southern Miss (7-3) for the 48th time in program history on Sunday. The Bulldogs and Lady Eagles will tip off at 2 p.m. CT inside Humphrey Coliseum on SEC Network+.

NOTES:

Mississippi State extended their winning streak to five with an 89=59 victory over Charlotte.
Six Bulldogs scored in double-figures against Charlotte, marking the second time the Bulldogs have done such this season.
Favour Nwaedozi and Destiney McPhaul led State with 16 points in the contest. Nwaedozi collected her fourth double double of the season.
Chandler Prater collected her first double double in the Maroon and White, finishing the contest with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Mississippi State ranks fourth in the SEC and 13th nationally with 6.4 blocks per game.
Madison Francis paces the team with 3.5 BPG, a mark that is second nationally and atop the SEC.
The Bulldogs have succeeded thus far this season in the first quarter, outscoring their opponents in all 10 opening quarters this year.
Mississippi State plays a physical brand of basketball, looking to get to the paint on the offensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs have won every game this season where they have scored more points in the paint than their opponent.
The Bulldogs have also outrebounded all their opponents this season. They rank 30th in the nation with 43.4 rebounds per game.
In non-conference regular season action, Purcell's squads are 46-6. They hold a 28-1 record inside of The Hump.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – SOUTHERN MISS

Southern Miss enters the contest coming off an 81-73 victory over the UAB Blazers, where they finished the game on a 10-0 run.
Missy Bilderback is in her first season at Southern Miss after previously serving as the head of the ULM women's basketball team.
Last season, the Bulldogs earned a 78-70 victory over Bilderback's Warhawks in Monroe.
Southern Miss brought in nine transfers ahead of this season. Five of those played under Bilderback at ULM. Three of the nine transferred from SEC programs, including Arkansas transfer Carly Keats, who leads the team with 13.0 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY:

Mississippi State has a slight advantage in the all-time series over Southern Miss, as they lead the series 25-22.
When played in Starkville, The Bulldogs have won 15 of 23 contests.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams under head coach Sam Purcell.
The last time the two teams faced off was November 9, 2019, where State earned a 91-58 victory.
The two teams were scheduled to play in December of 2020 before the game was cancelled due to COVID protocols.
