Nwaedozi And Prater Power Bulldogs To Sunday Victory Over Southern Miss
December 14, 2025 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Favour Nwaedozi and Chandler Prater led Mississippi State to their 10th victory of the season when the Bulldogs took down the Southern Miss Lady Eagles, 87-64. The duo both finished the game with double-doubles.
Â
The Bulldogs continued a trend of jumping out of the gate early against their opponents, as they outscored Southern Miss in the first quarter by 11 points. They've now outscored their opponents by 10 or more in the first quarter in three consecutive games.
After taking a 12-point lead into the half, State began the quarter with a 6-0 run and at one point was outscoring Southern Miss 20-3 in the quarter. The Bulldogs would secure a 26-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Â
Nwaedozi became the third player in the nation and first in the Southeastern Conference to collect at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in a single game, as she finished the contest with 21 points and 23 rebounds. Her 23 rebounds marked the fourth-best performance in program history. This was Nwaedozi's fifth double-double of the season.
Â
"I just played to what my coaches say," Nwaedozi said when asked about her performance. "Play hard, square up and hit a body to get rebounds, and all of those things worked."
Â
Chandler Prater picked up her second consecutive double-double and seventh career double-double as she finished the contest with 18 points and 10 rebounds. This was the third time that Prater scored 15 or more points this season. She shot an efficient 8-11 from the floor, finishing at 72.7 percent.
Â
"Chandler is more explosive when she attacks the basket and is taking care of the ball," head coach Sam Purcell said of her graduate guard. "The game is slowing down for her, and she's able to shoot 8-11. It's just phenomenal, and she's able to lead the team. That's huge going into SEC play."
Â
Destiney McPhaul collected her third-straight game in double figures after finishing with 14 points. McPhaul led the team from distance, knocking down a trio of threes, all falling in the first half.
Â
Trayanna Crisp tied her season high of 12 points, a mark she's hit three times this season. Crisp knocked down a pair of trifectas and has now knocked down a three in ten consecutive games. She has hit multiple threes in seven of those.
Â
Mississippi State has now won six consecutive games entering their next contest against Alabama State on Wednesday, December 17. That contest is set to tipoff at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
