State Drops In Four Against No. 16 Tennessee

STARKVILLE - Mississippi State volleyball fell short against No. 16 Tennessee in four sets.
State moves to 14-6 over the season and 4-6 in conference play. The Bulldogs matched up against ranked teams this weekend, taking a set off both No. 3 Kentucky and No. 16 Tennessee, each by a score of 25-18. The team battled hard in both matches but ultimately fell in four sets to both opponents.
Lindsey Mangelson led the squad in kills, tallying 16 over four sets played. Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss followed closely with nine in the match. At the end of the game, Mississippi State totaled 47 kills.
The team collected eight total aces, with six different Bulldogs picking up an ace. Cayley Hanson led the squad with three, trailing close to her career high of six aces.
In her first match as libero in the season, Mary Neal picked up 12 digs over four sets played. Mangelson was the next closest with 10, contributing got the 47 total the team earned in the game.
Hanson totaled 37 assists in the match as well as six digs in the four sets she played.
The Bulldogs earned five total team blocks in the match, with both Whitfield-Moss and Noella Obi earning a solo block.
Mangelson led the team in points scored, earning 17.5 in the match. Whitfield-Moss followed closely with 12, with three other Bulldogs scoring over five in the match.
The Bulldogs will return to action this Friday, taking on LSU in Baton Rouge.
