Endicott Places Third, Malcor Rallies To Finish In Top 25
September 08, 2024 | Men's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Garrett Endicott opened his junior season with a tied for third finish at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. As a team, Mississippi State landed in fifth place, shooting a 1-over 841 for the tournament.
Â
Endicott fired below-par rounds on all three days of the event. On Sunday, it was a 2-under 68 performance that included five birdies. He carded 14 birdies this weekend, and he is now tied for fifth in program history with 21 career rounds in the 60s.
Â
"Garrett did a great job this week," head coach Dusty Smith said. "He was solid in every round and stepped up in a big way for this team this week."
Â
Meanwhile, in his first tournament as a Bulldog, Ugo Malcor displayed resilience as he battled back from a rocky first round. After starting the event with a 5-over round, he shot 3-under on Saturday and finished below par again on Sunday with a team-high six birdies to finish a 1-over and tied for 25th.
Â
Only South Florida's Cooper Smith recorded more birdies in a single round at any point in the tournament that Malcor's six on Sunday. Smith carded seven on Sunday.
Â
"Last night in our team meeting we talked about being closers, having the ability to finish a good round down the stretch, and we did just that," Smith added. "I can't say enough about the toughness the guys showed today. We got off to a shaky start, but the guys never gave in. There is plenty we need to clean up going into our next event, and we will address that in our preparation this next week."
Â
Dain Richie and Josep Serra tied for 40th. Richie finished 1-over on Sunday after his opening round came in at 5-over, and Serra carded a 72.
Â
The Bulldogs will return to the course on Sept. 21 at the Valero Texas Collegiate in San Antonio, Texas. Hosted by UTSA, the event is played at TPC San Antonio, and the individual champion receives exemption into the PGA's Valero Texas Open.
