Endicott Leads Bulldogs Into Valero Texas Collegiate At Hometown Course
September 20, 2024 | Men's Golf
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – San Antonio native Garrett Endicott will lead Mississippi State into action in his hometown this weekend at the Valero Texas Collegiate. Fifteen teams will tee off at the par-72, 7,034-yard TPC San Antonio, the same course that hosts the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open.
Â
The individual champion this weekend will earn an exemption into the PGA Tour event on March 31-April 6, 2025.
Â
State faces a challenging field that includes five top-10 teams in the latest Golfweek Coaches' Poll that was released on Friday morning. Defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Auburn headlines a group of eight SEC programs that also includes No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 15 LSU and No. 21 Georgia. Rounding out the field is No. 3 Virginia, TCU, SMU, North Florida, Clemson, ETSU and host UTSA.
Â
"This week is going to really test our toughness, patience and resiliency," head coach Dusty Smith said. "It's a golf course that is going to demand your full focus on every shot. It's always great when you play at a venue you like against a national championship-caliber field. It always creates opportunities to learn and grow. Our focus this week is on competing – competing for each other, competing for every shot and being Dawgs out there. We are excited for this next step."
Â
Smith has shuffled his lineup this week, but Endicott remains in the No. 1 slot. The junior finished tied for third in his last outing and is now among the top five in MSU career history with 44 par or better rounds and 21 rounds in the 60s.
Â
Transfer Ugo Malcor moves up to the No. 2 spot this week after carding 11 birdies in his final two rounds at the season-opening Visit Knoxville Collegiate. Malcor, last year's A-10 Champion, led MSU in the second round in Knoxville with six birdies that was the second-most by any golfer in the field two weeks ago.
Â
Josep Serra will play from the No. 3 position. He has been in State's lineup for every tournament since he arrived in Starkville last year. In 2023-24, he contributed 85.7 percent of his rounds to the team score.
Â
Dain Richie, the Bulldogs' second transfer from the offseason, is in the No. 4 spot. He carded his first round in the 60s as a Bulldog in his last outing. Rounding out State's lineup is Drew Wilson, who will make his season debut. This summer he shot 10-under and finished fifth at the Mississippi State Amateur Championship.
Â
Harrison Davis will compete as an individual. The graduate student had a busy summer overseas, competing at the British Amateur and Canadian Amateur, where he tied for 13th and shot 5-under, including a 65 in the second round.
Â
State will begin teeing off at 9:40 a.m. CT on Saturday morning from the No. 1 tee. Davis will follow at 10:20 a.m. from the No. 10 tee. Live results will be available on GolfStat.com.
