SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Harrison Davis, playing as an individual, led the way for Mississippi State on the second day of the Valero Texas Collegiate. The Bulldog graduate student picked up two birdies in his final nine holes to finish 1-under on Sunday and move into a tie for 18th.
Meanwhile, Ugo Malcor fought his way through the second round to card a 73. He remains 3-under for the tournament and is tied for ninth. Malcor bogeyed No. 4, but immediately responded with a birdy on the fifth tee. After a bogey on No. 12, he didn't take long to get the stroke back with a birdie on the 14th hole.
"I'm really proud of our fight today on a pretty difficult day," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I felt like we didn't get off to the best start, but we found a way to hang in there. We need to come out tomorrow with the right intensity and focus."
The five Bulldogs in the lineup collected 13 bogeys on the front nine on Sunday, but the team responded well at the turn, picking up 10 birdies on the back. That effort was highlighted by Drew Wilson, who totaled six birdies in the round, including five on the back nine.
Wilson and Dain Richie finished at an even-par 72 for the day. Wilson is now tied for 31st along with Josep Serra. Richie is now tied for 22nd at 1-under for the tournament.
State is tied for seventh entering Monday's final round. The Bulldogs will tee off at 8:00 a.m. CT from the No. 1 tee with Garrett Endicott leading the way. State will play the final round alongside Georgia and SMU. Davis will leave the clubhouse at 9:50 a.m. and start on the back nine. Live results will be available on GolfStat.com.
