State Takes Match One Against Golden Eagles

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State Bulldogs reigned victorious against Southern Miss, as they took down the Golden Eagles 3-1 in the first of their two matches.
After losing set one, State came back and clinched the next three sets. The Bulldogs won set two on a kill by Arissa Smith and took set three on an attacking error by the Golden Eagles. State finished the match with a 25-14 set win, which was completed by an Amina Shackelford kill.
The Bulldogs racked up 46 kills in the contest. Smith led the team in hitting percentage, as she finished .444 with 9 kills. Kalin Newsome led the team in kills with 16. Amina Shackelford and Rebecca Walk also performed well, as they tallied 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
The Dawgs were a wall at the net, as they totaled 23 combined blocks. Shackelford led the team with a season-high 4.0 blocks. Walk finished with a season high as well, as she collected 3.5 blocks. Arissa Smith completed five block assists as well.
Erin Kline got her second double-double of the year with 25 assists and 14 digs and tied her career-high with two service aces. Ceci Harness collected 20 assists on the night.
Mckenna Yates totaled a team high 16 digs and hit for 1.000, as she picked up her first career kill. Mele Corral-Blagojevich had 11 digs and also collected 3 kills.
The Bulldogs are back at home again tomorrow facing the Golden Eagles again at 3 p.m. and the match will be streamed on SEC Network+
