State Rolls Over Green Wave, 3-1

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs opened the Green Wave Classic strong, as they prevailed in the opening contest against the Tulane Green Wave, 3-1. The Bulldogs attacked at a season-best .296 as a team.
Strong attacking was the story of the night for the Bulldogs, as they tallied over a .350 attacking percentage in every winning set. In the third set, State posted a match-high .433, as they cruised to the 25-15 set win. The Bulldogs finished with 64 kills, picking up 19 more than their opposition.
Leading the Dawgs in the contest with kills was Karli Schmidt. She picked up 17 kills on 34 swings. Kailin Newsome was right behind her with 16 kills. Amina Shackelford made the most of her swings, as she picked up 12 kills on just 22 attacks, finishing with a team-best .545 attack percentage.
McKenna Yates excelled in the libero spot for the Dawgs. The freshman posted career-highs with 17 digs and six assists. Also posting a career high was Mele Corral-Blagojevich, who tallied five service aces throughout the contet.
Erin Kline made her first start this season. The sophomore from Novi, Michigan, picked up a career-high 34 assists, beating her previous best of 32 in the Bulldogs' last contest against Notre Dame. This marked the second time in Kline's career she posted 30+ kills.
State will be back in action tomorrow in the Green Wave Classic as they take on the ULM War Hawks. First serve is set for 12 p.m. in New Orleans.
